Vermont Association of the Deaf

There are about 400 Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind (DHHDB) children living in Vermont, some of whom are attending schools out-of-state in order to have access to the education they deserve.  One of our state senators in VT believes that a petition like this will help the legislature better understand the gravity of the current educational system in Vermont and how it is failing our DHHDB children. 

The petition with your support can help create a new legislation that focuses on Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind’s (DHHDB) bill of rights.  If passed, it means that it would recognize and promote the unique communication and language needs of DHHDB children.  Children who are DHHDB have the right to qualified professionals who are competent in developing the child’s language skills. Parents of DHHDB children have the right to accurate and comprehensive information, including access to state resources to help their deaf children reach their full potential.
